Oliver Perez, please accept an assignment to AAA

Dear Oliver Perez, From 2004 to 2007, you were a pitcher that exceeded expectations. From a 2004 career year to two 2006 NLCS starts where you pitched marvelously,you made a name for yourself. Hey, at one point, you were the opening day starter for the Pittsburgh Pirates, right? Well, that was a happier time, a time where you had batters guessing, offenses baffled and managers frustrated. Now, you're a multimillion dollar janitor in the Mets bullpen. There is no way that by staying in the major leagues as of this moment, you will regain your form and become the Oliver Perez that once won 15 games for us in the 2007 season. Oliver, we as Met fans ask, no, BEG you to accept a demotion to the minor leagues where not only will you be able to have the opportunity to once again develop confidence in your pitching ability, you will have regular work as a starting pitcher, allowing you to regain command of your game and regain respect in your locker room. In the minor leagues, you will have the ability to progress towards another multimillion dollar contract, one that is received by merit. You will not lose any of the money that you previously signed up for (We are sure that your agent, Scott Boras will see to that). However, if you don't accept a demotion, you will lose respect as a Major League athlete and you will fade off the map into oblivion after you finish out the next year of your contract. Please, Oliver, do not allow your pride to get in the way of your career. R.A. Dickey was sent to the minor leagues after a horrible season with the Twins, and after regaining command of his game, he turned out to be a gem for our beloved ballclub. Who's to say that you cannot accomplish the same thing, Oliver? Please accept an assignment to the minor leagues, Oliver Perez. You will regain respect, regain your form and most importantly, regain a fanbase that has no faith in you right now. We hope to see you in the Mets' rotation again after you regain your form.
